I had 24 hours of free time in Milan at the start of a business trip, and I wanted to make good use of my time. At < $10 for the Kindle book, this was definitively worth the price. I've used Rick Steves books since 1991, before the Web. I always like Rick Steves' hand-drawn maps that clearly show just what you need to know, his 3-triangle rating system for what is worth seeing, and his time-saving advice for busy Americans. I managed to pack in a full visit to the Duomo, plus about 6 of the 8 other places (museums, churches, piazzas, arcades, and districts) which were my stretch goal. (The Last Supper was not open the day that I visited.)My only complaint is that his writers missed two important time-saving pieces advice for seeing the Duomo.1. If possible, purchase your tickets online in advance, or you may have some wait time.2. If you need to buy tickets at the ticket center across the street, if you are going to pay by credit card, look for the vending machines at the back of the room. You do NOT need to take a number and wait to be served. The "assistants" at the front of the room said nothing about this, and the room was too crowded to easily see the vending machines in the back, so I wasted 30 minutes waiting for my number.3. If you bought a combo ticket to go in the Duomo and to walk on top, and if there is a line to get inside, then go see the roof first, which usually has a shorter line. Then make sure you take the correct way down (south?) which will give you entry into the Duomo.

Another great Rick Steve's Travel Guide. I did not realize the small books have the same info as the Italy Book which is apparently all encompassing. I bought several of the smaller guides but already had the larger one. Only reason to buy this is if this is a newer version. Now I know better. They are smaller so if you are only going to a specific area, they are good, otherwise buy the newest full version of the country that you can since you don't want to carry all of these books along with you when you fly half way across the world.

It's ok. The small guide book is a little over half about Milan and only two lakes (Como and Maggiore) and a few towns on each lake. However, the detail about those particular lakes is good. I wish there were more lakes/towns (Garda, Lugano, Orta) information and less Milan.

We always like Rick Steves guidebooks. This one is good and is pretty comprehensive. I only gave it 4 stars because it is missing information on public restrooms and drinking water which must only be in the full country books. We have visited Italy before but I cannot remember if eating establishments will provide tap water if you ask.

This guide is a small, easy-to-carry book, packed with useful, up-to-date information on major sights, restaurants, hotels, transportation, and more. I especially appreciated the very good coverage and maps of the lake cities, because most guide books on Italy give little information on these places.

I should have read more carefully before ordering this slim volume. It is, after all, entitled "A Snapshot..." and it is exactly that. We will keep it but order something more in depth before our trip to Northern Italy.

Covers only Milan and two of the lakes. Does not include info on lago di garda. Will need to purchase another book to cover more of the Itallian lake area.

If you know Rick Steves books, you know what the five stars mean. If you don't, for me, and for many years and places now, they are the best travel books to have (Along with the Michelin guide, for a more "academic" description of some sites).
