heavily illustrated, including two color inserts with nearly 50 color images of covers from the 1940s to 2000s, some of them from rare foreign language issues.. My own favorites were the larger "World Around Us" issues, special issues, such as "Men, Guns, and Cattle" and the swashbuckling novels that introduced me to those stories Errol Flynn never got around to. When I went off to college, my parents tossed whatever issues I had (grrr), but I've replaced a treasured few in today's comic book shops.

I started collecting Classics Illustrated in 1960, on my 10th birthday. Over the next 6-7 years, I added to the collection, finding what I could on the newsstands and in bookstores, and eventually tried completing my collection by sending for them through the mail. I managed to track down all but 6, which have eluded me to this day (I have found some for sale, but at ridiculously high prices). I still have all the ones I ever purchased, or received as gifts, and someday I hope to get the ones I missed, This history is like a trip back through time, and I hope to pass my Classics comics, and the history, to my grandkids in the future. I've enjoyed looking at the alternate covers, the foreign editions, and the peripheral materials Gilberton also published. This is one of the best e-book purchases I've ever made.

Loved the Classics Illustrated comics in the late 50s - early 60s, but my teachers hated them. They didn't realize that this series actually encouraged young people to read the classics they were based on. This book brings back pleasant memories.

Second edition brings us up to date with all things Classics Illustrated/Classic Comics. Combined with Dan Malan's books, one is prepared to really enjoy collecting the comics which introduced us to and led us to the greatest stories in the world. Cheap at twice the price, I do not regret buying this twice.

Interesting history of Classic Illustrated comics as I have read them as a child in the '60's.
