A gentleman at my Church recommended this book to me. I have had a Muslim family living two doors down from me for about 18 years. This family is very isolated from Westerners and Muslims alike. After reading this book, I was finally able to open a real conversation with the wife. We talked about the things we pray about, how we view God (Allah) and the burdens that every woman carries for her family.This woman desperately needs a friend, and now I have the tools to reach her effectively without asking her to compromise what she believes to be true.

This is a five star for the right person and a three star for the wrong person. For most readers 4.5plus would be best rating. The book provides good in site and understanding of the way Muslims view the world and why at a level that is understandable by a first time reader on the subject but still provides opportunity for further understanding for those who already have some study of the subject. It is not over burdened with scholarly detail which limits its depth. The down side of the book is just that there are lots of other books that accomplish the same thing.

This book unashamedly pitches itself as Islam 101, a basic beginner for people interested in befriending their Muslim acquaintances.The contents of this short book are practically very helpful for the person starting out in their quest to understand the complexity of the worldviews of 20% of the world's population. The reader is pointed in the direction of the attitudes, knowledge and actions they will need to embrace to be effective in humbly understanding Muslims. The important distinction the author makes for Western readers is that The Prophet Muhammed was born in an Arabic culture and Islam is a Middle-Eastern religion. This distinction requires a different approach to the fast, quick, non-relational, punchy Western evangelism methods. It is important to appreciate the value of patience, customs, gender, holy scriptures, and understanding the simmilarities of both faiths, as a starting point for creating commonality and trust with Muslims.

Written by someone who has been there. The author has had experience to back up what he says. We found this book very helpful in guiding us to show sincere love and have a deeper understanding of Muslim friends here in the states. I agree that Christians must get beyond the fear (which is not of God) and show a true love to those around us. Cultural differences can make that tricky enough and this book helped us to work through the differences. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a Christian who has contact with Muslims as neighbors or at school or work.

Overall, a great book. Well written. Filled with useful information combined with practical examples. I disagree theologically/missiologically with the author on a few topics (particularly in chapter 6), so I would recommend the book with a few cautions. But, I would still definitely recommend. A great book if you want to learn more about how to interact with Muslims with cultural sensitivity and build gospel-focused relationships with them.

This book brought greater insight with the cultural differences between the east and the west which sets the foundation for evangelism with Muslims. Living in an area heavily populated with easterners I have come to gain a greater understanding of their perspectives and proper communication with evangelism (we have had many debates on the subject matter). Definitely will read this again and intend to move to the Middle East one day for evangelism as the Lord leads.

This is an excellent resource for anyone building a relationship with Muslim's in their sphere of influence. It is written by a man who has lived in other countries and in the midst of Muslims. He shares to the point and in very effective and easy ways to understand points on this process. It is a short read, but very compact and helpful.

I read this book in a few short sessions and it did a lot to help me understand the Islamic and Middle Eastern worldview. Whether you are Christian or not religious at all this short book will inspire you to build relationships with Muslim people. I can't think of a better start towards a more peaceful and loving future for the world.
