I wonder if authors realize that for some readers, the ending can make or break a book. Since I wasn't aware when I read this book that it was actually a trilogy, I was left feeling especially LET DOWN upon reading the final page. When a reader invests themselves in a story, in the characters of that story, there are certain expectations...and when those expectations aren't met to the readers satisfaction, then anything that came before can be marred. And this is what happened to me.I really enjoyed this book...from beginning to the 2nd to last page, it held my attention, got me to invest in the story that was unfolding, and made me feel anticipation to sit down and read more. In short, everything I could ever hope for in a book. BUT THEN...I read the last page and felt let down...and even the fact that there was a second book available wasn't quite enough to piece the whole of my enjoyment back together.If I enjoyed the book, you don't have to leave me hanging in order to get me to read the next installment. Really good books can be a difficult thing to come by at times...so if you put out a great story, I WILL read your next one. Just don't make me feel that strong disappointment by leaving me hanging. I really DON'T enjoy that.As a side note, to anyone who is like me and doesn't like the overuse of the "F" word...in my own personal opinion, it WAS overused in this book. But then, I don't use this word, and so I don't particularly care to see it over and over again in the books I read.

I read this book expecting an ending. I know it's part of a trilogy, but I (stupidly) expected at least this story to com to an end. No, 2 pages from the end of the book, I realized I would have to read the next book. Here's an idea for authors - if you're going to write a 'trilogy' and charge $3.99 for each book, why don't you just write ONE book and charge $11.97? I personally have had it with cliffhangers and WILL not read anymore.

I've been having this book for a while, but haven't had a chance to read it. I finally had a break in my schedule to start it. OMG! Where has this book been all my life? It's amazing! I'm not kidding, I didn't want to put it down or for it to end! Luckily the 2nd one is out, so I don't have to wait long to read it!Just the prologue had me biting my nails & on edge. Clint is an awesome police officer that had to endure the unthinkable. My heart shattered for this character! He becomes the Sheriff a couple years later when all hell breaks loose. One attack, that they think would be an isolated event, brings the whole town in an uproar and no one knows who can be trusted! Susan, Clint's partner, is an awesome female lead. She's strong, spunky & everything I like in a female character.This book has all the great elements of a great mystery/suspense novel. It left me guessing throughout the book, I was surprised at all of the events, and I fell in love with Clint & Susan. I can't wait to start book 2!

This is the first novel I have read by this author. I read it in two days. It grabbed me from the first page, and I didn't want to stop reading until I finished the entire book!!!! It's got action, murder, betrayal and love all woven together into one of the best books I have ever read! I am an avid reader, and don't know why I haven't ever been introduced to any books by B. J. Bourg! I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in an up all night, edge of your seat, page turner!!!! Just the best!!!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a very well written book. I enjoyed the story, and had a good time trying to predict what was going to happen next, or the overall plot. One minute I am leaning to one character as favorable, and then I find myself despising them later. I ended up liking characters, and could feel my emotions begin to spike when dramatic things would happen with them. I'm trying to not put any spoilers in this review, so it might make more sense for this review after you read the book, which you should do. It keeps your attention, and has a great plot. I hope Clint Wolf is not done, and look forward to reading more if they ever come out. This book would make a great movie. There are some great twists throughout.

I rate this first book in the Clint Wolf series among the best small town mysteries I've read in a very long time. The author does an excellent job of drawing the reader in and I was hooked from the first page. His description of a small town police department, the politics and personalities that come into play, and of the camaraderie the officers share all ring true from my own experiences. I just ordered book 2 in the series and can't wait to start reading it. BJ Bourg has a new fan in me!

I was hooked from the very start. The characters were real and beautifully fleshed out. You will feel as if you actually know these people IRL- This author paints his characters with a colorful brush, and they come out quite three dimensional. What FUN!!I read this in one sitting, and before I got to the end, I bought the second book in the series.My words to the author?Start writing the next in the series, and the one after that, AND the one after that, (ad nauseum). I am a voracious reader, and I have become quite addicted to these worlds you weave.So, Bravo! On this series!And carry on, sir! I have an addiction to feed.

This is my first novel by this author but it certainly won't be my last! His grasp of police procedures, human pain and suffering and the psychology of his characters is on point painting vivid pictures in your mind as you read the story. And it's an exciting story from the start to the end!! Lots of plot twists to keep you on your toes and an ending that you won't predict! It's a super-fast read, probably because you don't want to put it down! Read it today and you'll be hooked, too!
